There must be something about naming an organization with the acronym MTA that causes it to underperform. I often wonder how cash dispensing machines in the mirror universe perform and am relieved that I don't live in that universe and need cash.

I think the only transit system in the US that doesn't underperform is CTA.

MBTA, WMATA, BART, MUNI, SEPTA (the trolleys) all have regular issues, too.

PATH is doing pretty good, never hear of them ever having any major issues.

This is the worst news I've heard of in a long time.

This is what happens when you have mayors who only care about giving thugs "who wish to destroy the space to do that".

They're overcrowded every day of the week, most hours of the day. The only exception would be weekday reverse-peak.

The Baltimore Metro is operated by the Maryland Transit Administration an agency of state government.

"“Repairs need to be repaired. I know they’re not going to endanger our lives.”"

Having to shut down an entire system for critical emergency repairs sure is evidence of that.

"“This city got all this money for hotels,” she said, but not enough to ensure the transportation can run well. Riders should boycott, she said."

Boycott those City run and built hotels?

Doesn't matter. The condition of the city is the mayor's responsibility, and that condition affects the system that is located in that city.

True, but Maryland's politics are a bit strange also. Birds of different genus, same species.

Despite the older systems like NYCT, CTA and the Boston T having a few issues every now and again, they don’t seem the have the major infrastructure problems on the entire system that the newer systems like WMATA and the Baltimore Metro seem to have.

It's stunning how CYA "safety" culture has paralyzed our country. If there was actually a problem we would have seen multiple derailments already.

*WHAT* is a "zmonth"

That sounds like a nebulous mathematical construction designed to complificate the issue. A variable unit to measure time in intangible units of ever changing duration and frequency.

E=MC\2 * 2

WHAT is a "zmonth"

It's a month dedicated to the legendary Zman. And that is great news.

What politics are "strange" in this case? MDOT MTA is a state agency, even though most of its services are in the Baltimore metro region where a locally controlled transit authority would usually provide those services.

If there were preventative maintenance they wouldn't need to shut it down for one whole zmonth. Shutdowns like this occur because it has gone past the preventative maintenance stage.
