This morning, I boarded an E at Sutphin Blvd, planning to take it to the 7 and then back to Flushing. The train held about five minutes in the station at Sutphin and then took half an hour just to get to Union Tpke, where I abandoned all hope and walked to Main Street to take a bus from there to Flushing (which perhaps I should have done in the first place). Reports were that all of Queens Blvd was fouled because of signal problems at 53/5. Yet I don't see anything out of the ordinary in this morning's E, F, M, or R statistics. What am I missing here? I am starting to think that I am completely misunderstanding the meaning behind these numbers and the conclusions that I may be able to infer from them. |

From this mornings AWOL reportE: N: 38 sched, 30 dep, 79%; S: 36 sched, 19 dep, 53%; N.B. Northbound goes to WTC. Only 79% of scheduled trains departed. Those that did depart were close to being on time at the terminal. Route: E; Direction: NORTH; Terminal: Jamaica Center - Parsons/Archer; count: 27; avg seconds late - 26; std dev (sec) - 40 I use a slightly different algorithm between AWOL and Late Start reports to determine which trains actually left the terminal. |
