Take the Brooklyn bound A train to Jay St-Metrotech. Walk 3 or 4 blocks south on Jay St (which becomes Smith St where it crosses Fulton St) to Schermerhorn St, turn right and walk 1 block west to Boerum Place. Museum entrance is just across Boerum Place. |

Can also take 2 or 3 (7th Ave. IRT), or 4 or 5 (Lexington IRT) to Boro Hall. Follow exit signs to Municipal Bldg, from the #4 platform. Walk one block east to Boerum Place, by Brooklyn Law School, turn right, and go two short blocks south to Schermerhorn St. and the Museum entrance. |

Rather tiny terminal for Greyhound in a major city. It's about the same size and style as the Buffalo (and Erie) one was, in use until 1975, now partially restored for other uses. |

Intercity buses really sucked before the Interstate Highway system was built. If you could possibly afford it, you took the train. Imagine going to Boston all the way on Route 1.I still remember riding with my parents driving through Indianapolis in 1961 on the way to the southwest (I think St. Louis and Columbus already had some kind of halfway decent bypass but there was no way to get around or through Indianapolis except straight through the city). Miserable! |

I remember driving up to Syracuse (as it so happened the day after JFK got killed) in November 1963. You pretty much had to take the NY Thruway. I think Route 17 portions might have been a mess with traffic lights or was not all there, I don't know. The I-80/I-380 option to get to I-81 was not totally in tact at the time. |

When I was a kid in 1954 my parents with me drove to the Catskills for our annual summer holiday. The route. The GW Bridge to route 4 to route 17. What I remember the high light of the trip was a stop at something called the Red Apple rest. We stayed on route 17, the route 17 before the modern route 17 known as the Quickway. In every town, there was a traffic light. What a horror that was. |
