Wow- I went looking for that thing in 2002 or so...couldn't find it. I also didn't know it was inside fare control.Nowadays, I have less free time than I did in '02, so getting to midtown is harder for me. But I might (emphasize "might") have some time next week, so hopefully it'll still be visible by then. With an unlimited card, getting into fare control will be no issue. Thanks for sharing this. |

I kind of regret not getting some original Keith Haring drawings in the subway. When I first started working there, it was only like two to five years out from when he was drawing on the blank spaces in the subway. Every once in a while they would remove an advertisement and one of his drawings will be there and I always meant to carry a box cutter with me to get them, but I never did. |

It's not an official political party; it's a loosely-affiliated movement of people who share a common belief in Nazi principles of white supremacy, antisemitism, ableism, rigid gender norms, and extreme nationalism. Curiously, many neo-Nazis (Bill included, it seems) don't seem aware that the word "Nazi" describes their beliefs and actively disavow that word; some may identify by other terms, such as "alt-right" but many would describe themselves with seemingly-neutral language, referring to themselves only as "centrists" or "Republicans" or "patriots." |

Although Bill supports Nazi ideology (namely, white supremacy, antisemitism, authoritarianism, and genocide), he is unaware that the word "Nazi" describes his beliefs. In his mind, the word "Nazi" is just an interchangeable insult, so when he praises the Holocaust and someone describes him as a Nazi for it, he instinctively says, essentially, "I know you are but what am I?"Ditto for "white supremacist." There were several lengthy threads in which he insisted at length that he's not a white supremacist, he merely believes in the supremacy of white people. The idea that the phrase "white supremacist" means exactly that thing is lost on him; in his mind, it's just another insult. (And one he's curiously averse to saying; he actually tried to euphemise it as "w.s." like a child trying to avoid a naughty word.) In closing, I can't help but note that Bill only showed up after Larry effectively disappeared and he could be assured that no ban would be forthcoming. In that respect, Bill is essentially a decomposition bacterium— when boards like SubChat die, he shows up to consume the cadaver. |
