Posted by Dave on Thu Aug 17 17:07:45 2017 edf40wrjww2msgDetail:detailStr Last month the Fort Worth & Western RR hired an outside contractor to replace worn rail (dating from 1947) near my home. New rail was dropped off; holes drilled for rail bars; and segments of rail riveted together. On Tuesday the old rail was removed and new rail installed. Red boards and derailers were installed at MP 2.9 and MP 4.0. Track was lifted to loosen spikes and the spikes and track joiners were removed by hand: Old rail and new awaiting installation: At this point I needed to leave. Later in the day the new rail was installed. The first train through early that evening was a seven-unit UP train pulling empty covered hoppers to Vista Sand for loading with frac sand.
