Posted by Joe on Fri May 19 20:23:47 2017 A week before Cannonball service begins, I awaited the passing of Train 2710 in Seaford. It is scheduled to leave Penn Station at 4:06 p.m. and make its next stop at Westhampton at 5:39. At 4:38 an eastbound local dropped passengers at Seaford, and a long gap followed. Two westbound seemed to be backed up from the Wantagh crossovers. At 5:05 p.m. Train 2710 moved through in no great rush, eight cars bracketed by 500's. He had 34 minutes to reach Westhampton. |

Its equipment was unable to get through to Penn in time and 658 was substituted. They probably ran it around some eastbound locals west of Wantagh and you caught it opening up from the 40mph restriction on the Wantagh crossovers. I doubt it arrived in Montauk anywhere near on time. |

Between the filtering of trains less than six minutes late, trains reported "on time" when the equipment hasn't even arrived at the terminal and can't possibly do so even close to the departure time, and lack of communication of significant events to passengers... it's just a guide. |
