Things wil be better in 2018, but there will still be no westbound service out of Greenport for about an 7 or 8 hour period prior to 9:30pm.So you can go there, but you can't come back. |

Sit alone in a mostly deserted Ronkonkoma station from 2:36am to 3:49am - I don't know if that is too safe at that hour. (Brentwood is not that far away). |

Its not really a railfan goody, it sucks to ride commuter rail at night cause you can't see anything outside, commuter cars also have tinted windows which makes it worse. You won't be able to see those farms and fields. |

If they want to really enhance that service, all trains should terminate/begin at Greenport. But they may need another trainset at all times. |

What they really should do is base the crew and equipment at Greenport, though they are probably afraid of overnight vandalism. Until the 1950's, that is what they did. Same for Montauk, until 1972. That's why they have a late night departure and early morning arrival today. |

Actually, for the MARC Sumitomo trainset, it would be a nice idea to lease a couple of Ed Ellis IPH Heritage coaches that he ran on the Hoosier State, and sell them as "Hamptons Reserve" cars or even Parlor cars. |

I do wish the faster, car-less ferry that the Orient Pt - New London company has would instead run out of Greenport, either the Shelter Island dock if it would fit, or over by Claudio's, and eliminate the schlep into town to catch the S92. |

I hope the crew just remembers to back up all the way into the station when pulling out of the yard, open the doors, then proceed to Greenport, as they have been doing since 1988. |
