If I'm reading that right, Grant Ave-Lefferts Blvd folks will have totake either a C local all the way in, and for express trains change to an Express A at either Euclid or Rockaway Blvd. That will not sit well with Ozone Pk patrons who would lose their one seat express ride to Downtown |

As will still be making all the stops between Rocky Blvd and Euclid so the only stations affected would be Oxford, Greenwood and Lefferts. I would assume that on midnights, the As would only be running to Far Rock with Rock Pk continuing to be served by the shuttle. I actually doubt that the Cs will operate overnights to 168 St but will probably replace the current A shuttle between Euclid and Lefferts. |

I don't know if it's meant tongue in cheek since it really makes a lot of sense for a variety of reasons. The A to either Far Rock or Rock Park is more or less the train to the plane. I don't know if there are operational difficulties or whatever or if the people using the Lefferts branch are more politically connected but simply from an outsider looking in, it really is sort of a no brainer. |

You got me. I missed that! But prank or no prank, I've worked with the MTA suits for the last 10 years of my Railroad career & an Idea like that would be a typical bonehead suggestion that someone would make with a straight face. Like merging the LIRR & Metro North into one Railroad, with one name & dropping the LIRR identity, which was the true dealbreaker right there. That didn't quite work out & most likely never will. |

No.Costs lots of extra money (more A trains, more C trains). Pisses off almost half the Queens ridership of the A train. If it's more airport service that's desired, extend the C to Howard Beach and leave the A alone. |

Lefferts Boulevard itself is BY FAR the busiest station past the Rockaway Boulevard split. The only other station which comes anywhere close is Far Rockaway itself. |

Far Rockaway is a lot longer a distance than Lefferts, and that branch doesn't have many more riders than Lefferts does. It is way more efficient to use limited resources short-turning half of A trains at Lefferts. If you want more trains to the plane, send the C to Howard Beach. People who get on a C there can switch to the first A that comes at Rockaway Blvd or Euclid. |

That's wasted time. |

Prank or not, it's something that could easily be done:Those who want the (A) can make a same platform transfer anywhere between Rockaway Boulevard and Euclid. Sure, some would hate losing a one-seat ride, but the overall benefits (including more trains to/from Lefferts in the first place) outweigh losing their express ride. |

Posted by Fisk Ave Jim on Tue May 2 23:02:07 2017, in response to Re: Extending the C To Lefferts, posted by Wallyhorse on Tue May 2 21:15:32 2017. Easy or not, If they ever extended the C to Lefferts as the sole service there, that would be a death sentence to the Liberty Ave El east of Rockaway Blvd. Riders would not put up with a one seat local ride that would take forever to get downtown or changing to An A from the Rockaways, freezing their assess off on the "same" platform at Rockaway Blvd or Euclid Ave in the winter for the express they are used to having all along.Ridership would nosedive, the MTA would say abandon ship & justify its abandonment a/c low patronage. Its been done time & time again over the years. Ruin the service or fail to upkeep to make riders vanish & say its time to rip it down. Last time they tried that was with the Franklin Shuttle. Luckily the locals voiced loud enough & the line was saved & re-built. No such luck with Myrtle Ave & 3d Ave Bx. lines as a few examples. |
