Building a multi-billion dollar tunnel from lower Manhattan to GCT for deadhead trains is ridiculous. There is no Manhattan Storage capacity to consider. The trains are to deadhead back to LIC to a yard there.

There is also no commercial need to run all these trains reverse peak back to Long Island. We built the West Side Yard to put an end to that costly nonsense 30 years ago.

If both lines to or from GCT are blocked, the people can go to Penn Station, Hunterspoint, or take the subway the 7 & E to Jamaica, NOT a silly tour via Brooklyn.

Trains going to GCT could dump almost all their passengers and then run through to Fulton Street and back to Long Island.

A fair number of passengers would stay on the train to Fulton St - lots of Westchester/CT people work downtown. You can see them jamming the stairs going down from GCT to the 4/5/6 in the AM rush.

Hmm. Flatbush to 5th is about 500 feet, just about long enough for an IRT platform. 5th to 4th is 780 feet, which feels long, but no shorter than the IND passageway at 42nd St. I like it, except that it would now be possible to walk from Bergen to Atlantic within fare control.

Do you expect people to get off the MN at GCT, and head down 2 levels to a LIRR train that just let everyone off, only to have it reload with Westchester people for lower Manhattan ?

I never considered the possibility of Metro-North passengers filling the now-empty train to Fulton Street-- that's interesting!
