If you were KING what would your Vintage Fantasy Fan Trip be?

If you were KING, what would your Vintage Fantasy Fan trip be?

Mine, and I'm glad you asked, would be a round up of M-1 Staten Island Transit Cars, acquisition of those dead lined B-1 cars in Philly, and some BMT Standards from the NYCTM. Next, bring them all up to snuff and run maybe two sets if enough cars could be safely rehabbed, from 205th/Grand Concourse to Rockaway Park, then to West 4th, and down to Coney Island/Stillwell Ave.

Remember, this is Royalties Fantasy.
Now have one of your own.

I'd rebuild the Myrtle, Lexington and Fulton Els to Sands St., grab the Transit Museum's 3 BRT Gate cars and ride those Els!

To which I would that, given the mechanical equipment necessary, I'd have Coney Island shops build a small fleet of BUs.

King, eh? My face on the money, and the right to print as much of it as I wanted, inflation not an issue? All right, then, I'd reconstruct a complete steam train as used in, oh, 1875 or so on the Brooklyn surface lines, and run it on the open-air portions of today's Coney Island lines.

If my happy dominions extend as far west as Chicago, I'd also round up some of the operable North Shore and CA&E cars from museums, and run them on fantrips on the "L."

I'm surprised nobody has said it already:

I'd "rebuild" the IRT-LIRR track connection at Atlantic ave.
I'd ride from Grand central (Track 1, shuttle platform), through the IRT-LIRR connection, all the way to Belmont racetrack.

We'd have to do this in the Mineola, of course. Hopefully we could get the 600vdc coffee pot in working order, so we'd have something to drink along the way.

I'd rather go back to 1923 and ride every older elevated line, including the shuttles. That would include the out-of-service Broadway Ferry shuttle, using the single remaining westbound (towards the ferry) track.

You're sure you wouldn't like to go back just a little earlier so you could ride the Manhattan els before 3-tracking? Not to mention the Brighton via Fulton L. But maybe don't ride on November 1, 1918.

A new fleet of 10 Electroliners w/ the shunts removed (so they could do over 100 mph).
And on the steam side, get the drawings and go out to West Burlington Shops to build 5632 (2nd), get the 2 B&O engines at the Museum brought up to FRA compliant, and maybe a few others.
Get the drawings and build a bunchof Budd dome coaches.
Do you need longer list?

Build an overhead (no, not underground) "Union Station" in lower Manhattan that all the diesel (and steam) railroads from Long Island and New Jersey could run into. Then ride the B&O's Royal Blue out of there to Washington DC.

Even earlier than that, please! I would love to ride the Manhattan els when the Forney locomotives pulled the old gates, prior to electrification. After riding all of the lines during the day, i would love to watch the locomotives change ends at South Ferry, during the PM rush hours. That must have been something to watch with 4 lines and only 2 platforms!

As Mel Brooks said "Its good to be the king". Because he'd have enough gelt to get the Mineola restored to its former glory. Then we'd give Shoreline Trolley enough of a donation to allow the restoration work and "borrowing it" for the trip.

But they didn't have standards.

There was no FDA, the Pure Food and Drug Act wasn't passed until 1906, and the understanding of food science, hygiene, and so forth was in a very primitive state.

It doesn't matter what cut of beef they have, and it doesn't matter the price— you wouldn't want to eat it. Olog might though.
