SAS/Lex Usage Thursdays Dec 2016/Jan 2017

I went through the turnstile data for Second Avenue/Lexington Avenue stations on the Upper East Side to look at how many people are getting on. I picked Thursdays for the last several weeks, mostly arbitrarily. I only included entries, and not exits. I added up the figures manually, which is a little tedious, so I only looked at a few days, otherwise, I would have included more data.

Here's the turnstile data; click on "Current" to see how to read:

I made some charts. We can see that ridership on the Lex starts dropping even before the SAS opens, because of the holidays. So in a few weeks once everything is back in full swing, we'll hopefully get a clearer picture of what's going on.

And of course I messed up the link to the turnstile data by including an extra quotation mark. Here's the link: http://web.mta.info/developers/turnstile.html

You can tell I don't link here often.

Nice work on the research and charts. The 2nd Ave extention is making a little bit of a difference for lex. Imo doubt it makes a real impact until the extention make a real difference until it reaches 125 st (phase 2).

Interesting. The totals for the Lex should have increased by now closer to the 12/8-12/15 totals, absent the SAS. But they have stayed lower. The 1/12-1/19 grand totals are higher than the early Dec. grand totals. The shows the SAS taking a bunch from the Lex, but also some from east side buses.

Also, there is a 4/5/6 FastTrack this week. We won't ever be able to do a comparison!

Looking at Lex vs SAS for the most recent week:

96th 14,794 21,886 0.675957233
86th 21,810 48,743 0.447448864
77+68/72 26,352 55,375 0.475882619

I was figuring SAS would do 33% as well as the corresponding Lex stations(s), but they seem to be doing better than that. That does not account for rider shift however.
