Trump: "...and Railways..."

Posted by SLRT on Fri Jan 20 12:22:52 2017

edf40wrjww2msgDetail:detailStr
In his inauguration speech he including a pause and added "...and Railways" in his list of infrastructure to get done.

Will it happen? We'll see. But this is not the first time he has specified rail and an American need.

Trump is a well-known con-man. He will say one thing to get the rubes to go along with him, but he will govern however Pence, Ryan and McConnell want him to. He's just going to make speeches about how he's "Making America Great Again."

Well you sure came a lot closer than most of the Obama and election countdowners who were off by half a day or more. Did you do that manually, or is there a countdown clock on the web somewhere?

Manually. I know that there are 1461 days every four years and the rest is trivial arithmetic. Although 1461 is also trivial arithmetic.

In addition to the SubChat clock being a little off, there is also a delay of a few seconds and the inaccuracy of my clicking post a second or two after the time I had chosen.

We don't know when Trump will leave.

He could leave on January 20th, 2021 when his term expires.

He could win a second term and leave on January 20th, 2025 when his second term expires.

He could leave on February 17th, 2019 when the Democrats impeach and convict him.

He could leave on January 30th, 2017 when he says: "BORED NOW, gonna go put my name on more buildings."

He could leave in a coffin on March 9th, 2043 while technically still remaining Eternal President.

I think the first two options are probably more likely than the others, but technically they're all possible.

What connection is there between Trump following the desires of some politicos and his businesses? I know there has been some talk about conflict of interest, but unless you are saying that decisions will be made to benefit the Trump Organization (and that doesn't seem to be what you are saying), I can't see that Cuomo would have much of a case. (If Cuomo is threatening to come after Trump's businesses for unrelated reasons unless Trump governs the way Cuomo wants, then Cuomo is the one who would have a severe conflict of interest, to say the least.)

Mr. Trump is both (1) a pragmatist interested in furthering commerce, not an ideologue, and (2) a true New Yorker who understands how his employees and customers travel. While the Dems may support public transportation for political reasons, Mr. Trump will provide support because commerce is enhanced when there is good and reliable public transportation. He sees the operation of public transportation not in and of itself as a jobs program, but rather as a service that allows accessibility to land, and the commerce thereon. He sees having an efficient and effective transportation as supportive of commerce, be it airports or be it subway stations. He will not seek to spend money on transit just to spend money, but to get things done for the people and businesses of the city, especially his hometown, New York. He will be a giant "plus" for those places where public transportation is a necessity.
