Any first day W / N/ Q stories?

I'm particularly interested in the meshing of uneven midday headways. The Q and the N now share the express track but the Q is average every 7.5 minutes while the N is 10.

Heh. Q and N riders are used to sitting for 2 minutes going nowhere at a merge because a train just snuck in ahead of them. :)

I got to the N/R/W platform at Lex/59 at 9 AM today. Nothing unusual. I just missed an R heading south. Next was a W heading north. Then a W heading south. The Ws were new 60' cars (R160s? I never pay attention to model numbers). The car I was in had a notice for N train changes posted on the inside.

Same goes for the Q and B. There are some random B services that are scheduled for 10 minutes platform-to-platform from Grand to DeKalb while most are 8 (which has been the norm).

My story: Lots of R68/68A's on the N, W all R160. Lots of people confused, especially on the Canal St bridge platform. I was under the impression the N and W would be 100% R160. They should run the hippos on the Q, which never needs to do a sign/route changeover on the road.

They ran an R68 on the (Q), along with the ones on the (N). I hope they run an R68/68A on the (W) tomorrow.

I rode my first (W) since the cuts. It departed at 5:33 PM from Astoria-Ditmars Blvd. It contained set #9208-9212 (I was in #9210), a recent transfer from Jamaica.

I enjoyed checking out the W today. I saw some R68/As in N service. The W was completely made up of R160s. I saw some sets from Jamaica that I had ridden on such as 9183–9192. They even had the posters for the F service change in Brooklyn.

I overheard one girl talking on the phone. She was telling someone how she was waiting for the N at 14th Street, and she didn't know about the service changes, and as a result, for some time, she was waiting for the N to come on the local track. She later realized and came on the N.

There are signs all over the place. Posters and new signs everywhere. Also, do people not even look at what is going on around them? Sheesh.

Nothing can be worse than what happened after the Chrystie Street service changes. Are there any people here that experienced them in person?

Best service ever.

N flew from Canal to 34th in under 8 minutes around 7pm (which took up to 20 minutes under severe congestion under the old service). Ride home around 10pm from 34th to Bay Ridge via N express (then R) was 40 minutes, almost record time. R was running at 10 minute headways in the evening - major improvement.

All N, Q and W trains I saw were R160's today. All R trains I saw today were the older ones from the 1980s (but there were many R160's on the R this past weekend, as has been happening most weekends.)

I think we do have some who were on site for the Chrystie Street mess, but I was in the Army at the time.

I did get leave soon enough to see the aftermath, including some short-lived services and signage, like the NX and the RJ.

I ended up working late yesterday and caught the evening W trip to Gravesend-86 St. One other railfan was on the train (with a tripod!!!) but he bailed at Atlantic Av-Pacific St.

Some confused faces here and there, but others figured out we were going into Brooklyn and took a seat.

They haven't updated the programs yet. Lawrence St lives again!

In the days leading up to the return of the W, the "Q" stickers at 60th and 3rd were replaced with "W" stickers, so that the signs at the entrances read "N/W/R/4/5/6". I was thinking that that would soon be replaced with signs that put N/R/W in the correct alphabetical order, and wondered why they didn't replace Q/R with R/W to begin with, and avoid having to change the signs twice. Looks like they will have to change them a third time now.
