It only went at high speed at the beginning. 300km/h. After that not much faster than the B train.

I rode the TGV once from Paris to Lyon and it was fast, nauseatingly fast. I've also been on some Euro trains recently, and they weren't that fast, from Nice to Ventimiglia and then to Milan, and then from Milan to Venice. I'll have to say the Italian trains were much nicer than the French train.

At high speed the train feels smooth except the subtle motion messes up your balance. And don't look out the window, that's when the speed becomes apparent and your eyes try to follow things. And forget about reading. I wasn't the only one turning green on the train.

I rode the trains for 8 weeks that summer, and this was the only one that made me sick.

Its only a tiny bit faster than the Acela in RI/MA and I had no problem there. And that in turn felt similar to the Acela in NJ which is even slower. You just have a motion problem it would seem.

If theres a next time, try Dramamine. They have a non-drowsy formula along with the original. Take it about a half hr before your trip to give it a chance to kick in. The stuff works, for me anyway.

That's because with the exception of tramways and subways or railways in Alsace-Lorraine, French railways use left hand drive as in the UK.

I took the Paris-Lyon run, and I felt fine. So did my wife, who often gets carsick. The Italian trains you took are not HSR. The are about as fast as Acelas.

There's a difference between the 10 minutes at speed on the AE, and the longer periods of time you are at speed on other lines. Also, I can see how if the ride is too smooth with exceptions it would be worse than bumpy throughout. I can read on Amtrak while going over jointed rail for hours, but the random bumps of a bus (or plane turbulence) make reading impossible for me for more than 2-3 minutes. If these trains have better shock absorption than AE, I can see how it would be more inclined to cause motion sickness than our trains.
