Only with a cab signal drop which would result in trains crawling around the curve. It's repeatedly claimed that PTC will slow operations, yet the alternative would result in even greater delays. |

Yes, crawling around that curve is what they had to do in order for them to reopen the corridor per FRA after the wreck. No more Philly - Trenton Regional trips in 23 minutes. And yes, PTC is more granular and efficient. |

Where are you getting your figures? PTC costs for each of the major NE commuter systems and Amtrak were about $300 million each, not counting the recurring costs of maintaining the system and fitting ACSES to all future locomotives at 50k-100k a pop. Of course the real cost are all the trains that are delayed or slowed by an inherently unreliable system. PTC reduces capacity, full stop. Please explain why I should ride Amtrak when Fung Wah bus is half the cost and the driver can make up time en route. |

Also that was pure safety theatre. The approach speed into the curve from the west was lower than the overturn speed. If the engineer pegs the controller and runs a train up to 100 mph it will derail on just about any curve, but look at all the millions or billions of times this sort of accident hasn't happened. Rail safety hasn't been a real problem since the 1950's. PTC is chasing diminishing returns when the real problem is found on the roads. |
