On my first ERA fantrip 1966 (?) - tour of 207 first, then two D-Types pulled by a Steeplecab over various BMT-IND routes, there was an older man wearing a conductor's jacket among the group. The subject came up about the first subway, and this guy was there opening day! Said he was twelve at the time - his father brought him along. He remembered it all - being in City Hall station, then on the first train. Said the stations were new and clean. |

There have been reports of faint music and noises with the smell of cigars and lush food cooking emanating from Mineola which is locked up in her barn in Branford. Hmmmmmm. |

Past Lo-V fantrips operated by the ERA would start at GC and then take the non-revenue connection (revenue track up till August 1918) to the Lex, continuing south on its local track to Brooklyn Bridge, with a stop at City Hall station. |

Took in the Parade of Trains, stood on the platform at City Hall Loop station and rode on the IND old timers as much as I could. By the time I got to LGA for my return flight home and cleared security, my plane was boarding. |

Too bad Lo-V trips you were on didn't cover the non-revenue track.Sounds like you had a deccnt time in NY though, riding the EL cars on the Astoria line - That's something I haven't done yet - ride the refurbished el cars on special trips - and very much would like to sometime. |

We wish... at twelve probably he was not that much of a railfan yet to notice car numbers, and the system was so brand new, there was in all likelihood, no railfan transit community to hook into. |

I have to admit I never paid attention to car numbers when I became immersed in the subway in 1967. Nor did I pay attention to marker lights, much to my regret. |
