"This is meant to be a starting point for a conversation," Ward said, who estimated the cost of a No.1 train station extension at about $3 billion."I guess part of that $3 billion dollars would include a connection to the new South Ferry station. Obviously, none of this is real at this time, but the notion that a new tunnel come on line is not in and of itself outlandish. Other than the 63rd st tunnel, every other Brooklyn/Queens connection to Manhattan is pretty old, nothing lasts forever. That includes the WB and MB. |

Houston Street Tube to Williamsburg, tube to SI, 2 Av ext across the Harlem River, these should be on the table when it comes to new river tubes. |

They're like JournalSquare-K-Car then, thinking that the 1 can be extended into the drink as he thought that the PATH could be extended from Hoboken back into Manhattan.Aspects of it do remind me of this, though. |

I wonder why they are proposing doing it with the (1). Wouldn't it make more sense if perhaps you did it with an SAS line that could go there (maybe that's how you get the (T) into Brooklyn for example)?Very ambitious no matter what. |

If there's a bellmouth south of Whitehall Street station, maybe they'd be better off extending a revived W train to Red Hook, and add a stop at Governors Island along the way. |

Yes, but that could be a massive incentive for getting the SAS funded, especially if you can have a branch of it go to Red Hook (and maybe finally make that never-finished South 4th Street station in Brooklyn done with actual train service). |

If it is (and I think it could, actually) that would turn the new SF station from being a boondoggle into being a forward thinking investment. I actually want this to happen, heh. |

Except their plan calls for reviving the 9 train and having it branch off from the 1 between Rector and South Ferry (possibly to allow the new tunnel to not have to dodge all the other tunnels over by Bowling Green/South Ferry). The extension wouldn't go through South Ferry at all. |
