The R-179's Are Taking Shape Now. |
|
Posted by William A. Padron on Sat Sep 3 12:38:39 2016 Yeah, it looks like Bombardier is finally getting the first R-179's ready to be delivered. Their car numbers are starting off at the low 3000 series, just like when the R-10's did way back then...R-179's #3013 + Others At Bombardier. -William A. Padron ["3011-3310"?] |

I think these things are forever orphans like the R143.Now an interesting project would be to do a R188-style job and rebuild the R143 to be compatible with the R179 (Yes I know they are different manufacturers). Then two small fleet of orphans could be 1 moderate sized fleet of orphans. |

If Volunteers could get Standards, Triplexes, and R/1-9's to Mu, then Shirley R-143's and R-179's should be able to dance! And as an after thought, modify in those idle R-110B's! But please everybody realize it will be MONTHS till you can ride them. They have to be track tested, personnel have to be trained, they have to be put in simulated service. I'm sure there are many other variables involved. So please don't ask what exact date it will be and which line they'll first be on. Yeah, right! |

Well, 3014's on the way from there to there.Should be coming down I-87 to 287 to 80 to the GWB. I believe the trucking contractor is Silk Road Transport, who arranges for the permits and a private escort. If as past NYS and NJ State Police might also join in, with PA guiding it across GWB to Amsterdam Ave. Private escort up to the NYCT Gate (NO Trespassing!!!!) at W 215 Street. One reason for slowness is the truck has to be in certain transport time windows and wait for the officers to escort it. Widecab5 |

I think it's 30 days....but that means the train is in service virtually 24/7.But that's after the process takes place that I described previously. I would say at least 3 months, MINIMUM, from the time the first train is assembled and powered up in the barn till the time the public can ride it. |

They will have different trucks than the 160s, so it should feel different riding the 179s, there's also the curiosity of what the propulsion sounds like. There's also the possibility that the A will get the 10 car sets, I missed out on the 160 test on the A so personally seeing NTT on the A line is something to get excited about. To me, when a new subway car class debuts is one of the most exciting events in this hobby, since it happens so rarely compared how often new buses come. The 160s debuted like 11 years ago. |
