Might have something to do with the station being basically a basement. Not to mention all the heat coming from the LIRR, 8th & 7th Ave Subways being poorly ventilated & filtering into the main concourse. |

Well, the Philly board is a true Solari board, the one in NY is a simulation, the old Solari bit the dust 15 or so years ago. I'll still miss them, but I understand the rationale. |

The old GCT Solari board was state of the art back in the day. When they took it down in the late 80s IIRC, some of the destination flaps were fought after & hoarded by "collectors" Flaps like "20th Century Limited" "Chatham", "Woods Hole", "Merchants Ltd" etc were some of the biggies. All either in basements or for sale somewhere on E-Bay. Then there was the " telautograph" machine. Now that was a shark feeding frenzy. I think one of those is in the Smithsonian |

Yeah, having a big sign there covering all Amtrak and NJT departures is something people expect. Replacing it with a bunch of video monitors will make the station environment seem even dinkier. It's too bad they weren't able to maintain the Solari board. |
