It makes sense more "easily" (i.e. out of the context of this subthread) if it were spoken before Donald Trump got the nomination. But in the context of this subthread, it makes sense even now. |

I know, but that is not what he said. No, he meant what he said and it makes sense. You don't understand what he was saying. He was saying that the SAS will be opening up very soon, so thus he used an event that has already happened that many people would have thought to have been very unlikely before it actually came true. |

But he said so in a very indirect way which is beyond the capabilities of some people here.He was very indirectly saying "The predictions that the SAS will never open are just as reliable as the predictions that Trump will never win the Republican nomination." |

It makes sense because Peter's post was based on decades of posts which claimed that the SAS will only open in some impossibly future date. This is now obviously obsolete, as most people who are now alive will still be alive when the SAS actually opens. The comparison to the Trump nomination is that just as the SAS opening during one's lifetime was at some point taken to be unrealistic, but now is completely realistic, so Donald Trump winning the Republican nomination, which was once laughable to anyone is now actual fact. The difference is that the Trump nomination has already happened and the SAS opening is in the future, but it's still in the inevitable near-future. |

And predictions that the SAS will never open are now ridiculously obsolete. They were humorous before, given the failure to open it after many decades, even after construction actually started, but now it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. |

One of the other alternatives:"Comprehensive reconfiguration of Broadway BMT (NQR and possibly W) services, including reconfiguration of Broadway express and local services, potential swapping of N and R terminals in Queens, implementation of route variants and/or changes in route designations. Compared to the proposed service plan, these alternatives would result in net travel time increases for passengers and service plans that would be more difficult to communicate." Never knew about this one. Wonder what the details and rationale for this would be. |

However, although a small portion of the SAS will be opening it is only a faint shadow of the full SAS that was envisioned when the IND was planned with its extensions into the Bronx and Bkln. It is even a shadow of a full SAS that should be running the entire length of 2 Ave from Harlem to the S/E of Manhattan. |

Canada does not have much of an open door policy as it did during the Vietnam era. Basically, you have to be sponsored or you can retire there since you bring your own money and benefits. Regardless, the only cities in Canada that have much of job market are Toronto and Vancouver. |

As long as you don't mind paying a 42% income tax rate and the sales taxes in most provinces are about 15%, or more. Dine out and you will be paying at least 30% of your bill with taxes and gratuities! |

Originally, there were two route choices for the SAS in the Bronx, correct? One would have recaptured the Pelham Line (were there any kind of projected plans for there to be a direct transfer from IRT to IND, at the point where it was to be recaptured?) Another was to build a new Bronx route south of the Pelham, also going northeast? If this latter route had ever been built, would this have meant the suspension of service on the IRT's outer Pelham, preparatory to tearing it down? Thanks. |

They proposed a line via Lafayette Avenue, south of the Pelham Line, and another one to NE Bronx via Boston Road and Morris Park Avenue, which would have connected to the eastern extension of the Concourse Line and had a branch that would have recaptured the White Plains Road Line. |

There has been talk about it but so far, no action. As per typical IND construction, there was originally a diamond Xover between the lcl and exp tks S/O Bway/Laf but it was removed when the exp tks were connected to Chrystie, For some reason the engineers designing Chrystie opted to begin the upgrade to Chrystie at the immediate south end of the station rather than south of then Xover. From what I have seen of the N/B side where BJ2 tk connects to B2 S/O the station, it seems that the upgrade could have been started S/O the Xover on the S/B side without making the upgrade too steep. |
