Edwards----Let's also hope that they keep my Sea Beach on the Manny B and don't put it back into that Montague rat hole of a tunnel as they did in the 90's through 2003. Since I live in California I need to know, have they radically changed the route on the "N" recently, besides what was in this thread? |

Your favorite train runs via bridge most of the time. It runs via tunnel during the late hours when the R isn't running. Once the 2nd Ave. line opens, chances are it will run express in Manhattan once again. |

That's god to hear, and I noticed the new cars on that video that was run on this board. Now to clean up those open cut stations. That would put the Sea Beach in the tall cotton. |

Steve8AVEXP is usually my man on board to keep me abreast, but why don't you let me know how those stations on the open cut in Brooklyn are coming along. Last time I saw them they looked like something out of Tokyo in 1945. |

Manhattan-bound trains are currently running express (not nonstop, but express nonetheless) while stations on that side are being rehabbed. Once that phase is done, they'll do the Coney Island-bound platforms. |

I never thought that the BMT roll signs should have included the name “Broadway” since many of the Southern Div BMT routes utilized Nassau St as well. BMT signs should have only displayed “Brighton,” "Sea Beach,” “West End,” and "4th Avenue” with the appropriate lcl and exp classifications since with the exception of the Sea Beach, the remaining Southern Div lines had both Bway and Nassau services and the 4 Av should even have included a single “R” for the Nassau bankers’ specials. The lack of appropriate signage forced the TA to use improper signs like “M” for both 4 Av and Brighton services even though the letter “M was clearly intended for the Myrtle/Chambers service on which it was eventually used. The Eastern Div letters of J/JJ, KK, and M should not even have displayed “Nassau St” but rather the Jamaica, Bway Bkln and Myrtle Av readings since in their case, all BMT eastern services other than the 14 St Line operated into Nassau St. It was the Manhattan centric attitude of the cesspool of incompetence that passed (and continues to pass) for TA management and planning that was responsible for the improper signage on the R-27s through 38s! |

It is hard to believe that the R68s are as old as the R9s were when I started riding the subway. The R9s looked and smelled so old compared to the R27s that were starting to run. The 68s don't look that old to me. |

The R-1/9s, with their dry friction journals, had that distinct "subway aroma" of journal lubricant. In fact, my IND route and destination curtains still have that aroma. |

However, I wasn't around to see those cars operating on the Sea Beach. When I left New York almost 62 years ago it the magnificent and poweful Triplex that was the signature car for my favorite train. |

The R-1s ran tests on the Sea Beach before the IND opened. In fact, they ran in revenue service sporting #4 signs up front. Car 381 was part of that test. |

R1/9s ran on other BMT lines as well, the #2 fourth Avenue line in the early 1950s, and, as I'm sure we all know, the Eastern Division from 1968-77.But other than the tests in 1931 or so, I don't think they were ever on the Sea Beach... |

I remember just about every trip I took on the Sea Beach when I lived in Queens back in the late 40's and early 50's, and it was always the Triplex that would tool into Times Square and 42nd Street, then one of the terminals of that line, later moved to 57th Street as I was told after we moved to California. I did see a strange looking train on the #2 4th Ave Local besides that ugly Standard car so that might have been the R-1, |

They were already on the property, but because the 8th Ave. line wouldn't open for another year, they worked out the kinks on BMT rails, since BMT tunnels had the same clearances. |

Not only that, but the electric portions on the coupler at the 6112C end were reworked so that the Triplexes can m. u. with the museum R-1/9s. Only the door controls don't trainline. |
