They may have been for a while, but by the time I started working for the TA, they had been replaced by conventional SMEEs and the R-11s were still on the West End Lcl.

Say what you want, but the R-16s were crummy as a fleet. Maybe if they had stayed on the Three Stooges Division during their entire careers, they may have fared better. Supposedly the ENY maintenance crews knew then and took care of them. IINM they did OK until they were shifted elsewhere.

Is train 1763 on the Trenton Line during the PM Rush, Push Pull equipment?

IDC which PP train it is, I just wanted to ride a PP train on Septa... prior to these Sliverliner V's issues I had plans for a fantrip to Philly that went - bus to Philly - Ride BSL - ride train 9745 (That was the Trenton run that used the Push Pulls priors to the SL - V issues) NJT back to NY.

When I heard about the SL-V's having these issues, I called off my trip or just plan to take the bus back rather than the train. But I imagine Septa Bombardier Coaches can't be much different than Comet IV's in terms of how it feels riding them, so I could possibly still do my trip.

Even on the Eastern, they had their share of problems. One morning when I was working Tower 1, a train of R-16 on the Bway Bkln Lcl was coming into Atlantic from E/Pky when the Motor generator on a GE car exploded and a large puff red smoke came out from under the car. fortunately the train was able to continue into the Middle track at Atlantic and clear the road otherwise it would have likely blocked both the Jamaica and Canarsie lines.

My question is "what's the fix"?

If it's just welding the cracks, then like when we had the R46 truck fiasco, I would think each truck would have to be inspected at least once a week.

Of course they would have the luxury of running the cars rush hours only to keep the mileage and usage down.

The cracks cannot be fixed by welding, a new part has to be installed. I'm not a mechanical engineer so I can't explain why.

would be nice. Over recent days I have been getting rid of old paper. Last night I read an old Trains article about how RDG coped w/ the Fretz building fire in Jan 63 and then a PTC strike. So, the current glitch, in the long view, is just another major bump in the road.
During my brief time in Germantown, I used the Reading most days when commuting to a job at Leary's. Tried the Ridge Spur to the 23 a couple times but it took longer.

This fiasco has ridership down anywhere from 10-20% on the RR from before the incident, per the Septa GM, Jeff Knueppel, he got those figures from spaces not occupied in the parking lots????

Most of the NJT/Septa combo trips takes 3 hours to go from NYC to Philly. The bus is a hour quicker. NJT/Septa combo is also 50 bucks round trip, you can buy bus round trip tickets cheaper than that.
