Didnt the MTA at one point want to do all rail car identification like this?I mean all the 68/68a with electronic signs like the NTT cars? |

So, the train clock saying 7:15AM was right, but the platform clock (visible at 1:40 in the video) saying 6:50PM was wrong?Keeping the train clock synchronized, I'd like to know how they do that. You think it'd be harder than the platform clock but who knows? |

Sointenly. Those old analog platform clocks are notoriously out of sync with the rest of the world. In fact the only one I know of is on the downtown platform of the Fordham Rd station (D train). |

My source from within tells me these signs are from a vendor who are showing what they can do so they can get a contract to equip future subway car orders. The rest of the R68/68A fleet ARE NOT getting these. As long as the car shells are in good to great conditions...couldn't they be rebuilt to into something like a R212 or sumpthin...sorta like how PATCO rebuilt their old stock? |

Depends on how significant clock drift is when not receiving a signal. I assume it would be the same technology used currently for the NTTs, does anyone know what that is? |

Even commodity x86 hardware of that era should have no trouble holding an accurate timestamp (maybe a few seconds a day). I'd assume/hope an external source of some kind is included though. |

I'm pretty sure that the interior displays on all the NTTs can show only red, green, or yellow (by combining red + green). This works out perfectly for the R142s, which need the red for the 1,2,3 and need the green for the 4,5,6, but they can't do the purple for the 7. It also works out well for the yellow N,Q,R, but all the other lines also use yellow, even though their own colors are different. So I don't think there's anything special about the displays in the R142s, it's just that their available colors match (most of) their lines. |

Also, I've never understood why they were so cheap as to not get exterior signs on the R142/142A that could show green for the 4/5/6.If the inside signs can show red or green, why not the outside ones? |

From what I have seen the CTA 5000s can display all the colors of the respective lines including brown and the photos I have seen show that the signs are quite easy to read and look almost identical to the old roll signs. |
