Due to a GO this weekend, ALL A trains will go to the Rockaways. The A Train will be operating to BOTH Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park.

This is the way it really should be at all times. People on Lefferts have to understand if the (C) went to Lefferts at all times (and if so, possibly 24/7 that would eliminate the late-night shuttle), they would get better service and all they would have to do is switch to the (A) on the same platform anywhere between Rockaway Parkway and Grant Avenue and across the platform at Euclid. Such (A) trains would likely not be that crowded at Rockaway Parkway since you would have twice as much (A) service coming from the Rockaways (likely on a 5-3 split between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park except late nights and on weekends in the summer when it would be an even split).

The MTA would have to make clear this would be an improvement of service overall, perhaps in rush hours with a limited number of (A)'s running to/from Lefferts in the peak direction to placate those who absolutely won't ride otherwise because they fear losing a seat if they have to change at Rockaway Parkway.

I doubt that the C would be 24/7, In all likelihood, the C would run as a Euclid to Lefferts shuttle on the midnights like the A does now. Also, it’s unlikely that there would be full time A service to both Rockaway branches since with a 20 min mainline, that would mean a 40 min headway to each branch. The midnight service would probably run as at present with the mainline to Far Rock and a shuttle to Rock Pk.

Good point:

Or perhaps the (A) runs every 15 minutes during late-night hours (and is the only line doing so) so each half gets service every 30 minutes.

That would be reasonable.

During the day there's 16-20 min headways on both branches south of Rockaway Boulevard. Charlie's have 8-10 min headway during the day, which would actually provide more service to Lefferts. If all Apple service is diverted to the Rockaways that would be 8-10 min headway during midday hours which would be very beneficial to JFK, Aqueduct, beach goers, and residents of The Rockaways, where did 40 min come from? 10 min headways on the Rockaways Mainline would not put the line at capacity. Good dispatching can prevent back ups between Euclid and Rockaway Boulevard, the same way Canal to Hoyt gets handled

It might be reasonable but it would throw off the connections with the other lines that the A must connect and merge with like the D, E and F. Passenger connections would be severely disrupted.

During the day presents no problem, but it’s during the midnight hours when the mainline headways are 20 min that the problem would arise. Also, if past practice were any indicator, it’s highly likely that during the middays, alternate Cs would be turned at Euclid rather than having all the C service go through to Lefferts giving the Lefferts leg the same 16 - 20 min headway it now has.
