The money train as used in the movie is nothing like the actual money trains as used on the NYCTS. The IRT and BMT’s money train consisted of specially modified cars that ere coupled t (usually sandwiched in between) conventional passenger equipment, Lo-Vs in the case of the IRT and Steels in the case of the BMT although the BMT els had to use specially modified wooden el cars. The IRT has at least one Lo-V that lacked center doors for use on its money train and the IND had 2 special R-1/9 types (Believe contract #B R-8) #66 and 67 Which were specifically designed for money collection. The iND also had 2 R-6s that were adaptable for use in the event the regular collection cars were O/S doe to trouble or maintenance. After the pre war cars on the various divisions were scrapped, the TA modified a few retired IRT SMEEs for use as collector cars which ran until the use of trains for revenue collection was ended.

IIRC right after the movie was released there were a couple of violent booth robberies with some similarities to events depicted in the movie. Therefore the car was not put into the museum out of respect to the transit workers involved.

Since then the car has barely been moved in the yard.

Wait a second. I was referring to the movie and the car that was modified for the movie. Car 51050?

There were yellow money cars in the museum for a short time.

You could come up to BERA and see Money Car G, it predates the TA's Money Train by a few years I would say.

Still I think it's a unique train car to just let it rot there in the yard it serves no purpose so maybe scrap it ? Karl

I’ve seen that one too. As I alluded to in my post, the elevated lines needed special wooden cars to make their collections.
