Construction began on June 22 for a streetcar route in El Paso, TX. The last streetcars ran until 1974 and the line ran into Juarez, Mexico. The new line will be a loop line just within El Paso and will be 4.8 miles long. The cost is estimated at $ 97 million. Service is expected to begin in late 2018.

The surprise news is that the original PCC cars will be used. Six PCC cars had been stored at a facility near El Paso Airport and are currently being restored by Brookfield Equipment Company in Pennsylvania. No news on the color scheme, although the last color scheme was a light-blue body with a white roof. Another paint scheme was orange, green and white. According to one source, the cars will have pantographs instead of trolley poles and they will be air conditioned. There also is talk of extending the line into Juarez again.

Well, if they intend on extending the line into Juarez, they had better do it soon, otherwise they will need a rather high trestle to get the line over the wall that Trump will build if he gets elected president.
