Posted by BQBrightonLine on Sat Jun 18 08:29:55 2016 Breaking news!Just confirmed from my good friend Trevor Logan. Bombardier now has 3 trailers set up at 207 Street in preparation for for fleet support. So as I reported, R179's are definitely on the way. However, I was told the first 10 car set would be here by Monday. A couple/few cars may in fact be delivered during the week. It's also reported that Bombardier is now working on the 6th production set. Let's hope the Pilot passesfinal Audit inspection. However, Bombardier has confirmed to me that even if the pilot does not pass Audit Inspection, they can incorporate any changes into the train sets already built. On a side not, even though Bombardier is trying by all means to to make up their failures, MTA doesn't care..... The R179 will likely go on to be one of the best fleets ever, but they won't be making anything for us anytime soon. Maybe they can get the R22X contract! Lol..... No actually I'm ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!! Now back on topic.... R179's are definitely on the way! Oh and in case you are wondering why the trains look slightly different from the R160's? Just wait on it!!! This is a good one! I can't speak on it yet. |

Interior wise,all of the NTT cars will carry that same sterile look and feel of the generic cookie cutter.The only drastic improvement ever to be impressed upon us was the R44/46 railcar of its day. These cars were leaps and bounds beyond anything to hit the road at that time,and still remain awesome when it come to passenger comfort. The closest cars to match them were the R110b. This is the interior PLAN the MTA should have carried over,along with the car specs. |

While comfortable, time and time again, studies have shown that the traverse seating arrangement of the R44/46 class has a significant negative impact on dwell times. The interior arrangement of the R32s is actually one of the arrangements most conducive to reduced dwell times |

This is a good one!The only things I can think of that would interest me are: -Better passenger view out the front -Open gangways within car sets -More sophistication on the FIND and/or displays that give ETAs in minutes to various locations down the line (though that really shouldn't affect the body of the car) But we've been needing a good surprise lately! The late night R to Whitehall doesn't exactly get me jumping for joy. |

No way the first 10 cars will be here this Monday, not even the first 5. They'll be here in the summer. Later in the summer. Those trailers have been there for months - the first one had to go in almost 2 years ago.Cars have to pass inspection before shipping. You can have open items which allow for shipment and there will surely be boatloads of FMIs once they get here (both to the pilots and the first production cars). The pilots and early production cars look pretty much the same as the R160s except for the trucks. We'll see how they perform once they get here. |

Other than that, 1-2 minutes per local stop and 5-7 minutes per express stop is a good rule of thumb. |

I was under the impression that the increased dwell times for 75-foot cars (R-44/47/68) was because there were fewer cars (and therefore fewer doors)in a full length train, as opposed to 60-footers. The 60-foot cars that had transverse seating (R-1/9, R-10, R-11, R-16) apparently didn't have dwell-time issues. |

There's no reason they can't have 5 doorways per car on 75' cars. And keep the transverse arrangement, it would just have fewer longitudinal seats, making it more like the R10 or R16... |
