Public Television (WNET, others) has been running a program Ten Towns that Changed America. Streetcars and rail get approved in this one-hour survey of ten towns.

A segment that interested me was the description of 1949-1952 urban renewal around L'Enfant Plaza, Washington, D.C. I thought I rode all the Capital Transit (or DC Transit) streetcar lines, including some in 1948, others in 1956-1959 (when I lived in Avondale, Md.), and some in the final months of operation. However, I cannot for the life of me recall the south end of the Georgia Avenue routes 70, 72, and 74, which apparently went to the wharves along Maine Avenue. New Dave's Pix has a photo of a PCC splashing through puddles there. How far did the Georgia Avenue lines go south? How did they loop? Was there a carbarn down there? Did they go through an urban removal zone? Many thanks!

A map in Leroy Kings History of Capital Transit shows (as does the rollsign in my collection) "7th St Wharves. The labeling of the route indicates P St SW and Water St as the intersection.

Whenthe Georgia Ave/7th St lines were bustituted, there was a planto bulldoze the barn andbuild new housing. My memory isthey were proposed as "Chalk Gardens" but I cannot findany substantiation.
