These videos were taken in April and June 2015 respectively. The first video is of some M7 and M3 action at Massapequa station while it was still going under renovation. The second video is of LIRR M7 action video taken at Seaford station. Note that Seaford had been renovated recently and looks very nice.

April 2015 LIRR action at Massapequa station

June 2015 LIRR action at Seaford station

Enjoy!

I remember when MP54s charged through Seaford and it was a grade level station.

The first and last three cars of long trains were smoking cars. They sounded like BMT Standards leaving stations. Back then, there was a whistle communicator. Today, it's a buzzer.

They were a lot of fun, had a lot of variety, and a lot of personality. I am heartbroken that not a single arch roof type exists.

The Pennsy ones were fun too. The old Reading and DL&W MU's just didn't do it for me.

I remember when MP54s charged through Seaford, bear foot in the snow, and it was uphill, both ways, at station.

I'm pretty sure the MP54s were completely done with by the time they were retired in the early 1970's. A few of them were 60 years old by the time they were retired. It is a shame that very few of the LIRR MP54s have been preserved.

Some of the 4100 and 4900's that got the 1950's rebuild were in pretty good shape when they got rid of them. They were either built or motorized in 1930.

Ronan decided to defer all maintenance on them, and trashed a lot of hard-to-get spare parts in 1967 to force his M-1 agenda, which blew up in his face in 1969-1970.

in 1964/5 the lirr was talking to the T.A.about buying "surplus" BMT standards & D-types to run on its rails.

It was "Standards", because of their similarity to SIRT cars.
The FRA did not permit it. I don't know how a train of those low horsepower cars that couldn't run over 39MPH be useful anywhere except the West Hempstead Scoot, and even that.

That was because a few dozen 1908-1913-built MP54's that were not rebuilt in the 1950's yet survived the 1955 & 1963 Pullman Standard onslaughts were still running and falling apart.

I have vague memories of a bunch of Pennsy MP54's sitting on the Mail siding west of Jamaica in the mid-1960's. They may have found some parts useful, which Ronan likely junked.
