Outside with a slip/slide condition on wet rails, and the chances of collision were much greater.Maximum speed would have been the same (15 MPH) and sight lines would have been greater. Sight lines at night ?Just like a tunnel, except no lights. Lights on front or rear of train are always on. Sight lines on surface are greater because the right of way is wider. |

That could pin open the uncoupling magnet valve open if frozen. more interesting is that there is debate in this article that FTA is competent enough to oversee rapid transit safety, and not the FRA. That would be a great start with NYCT. Signal Maintainers don't need to die in pairs anymore because NYCT is too good for foul time rules and brake tests |

How does a scrap yard separate the aluminum from the glass, rubber, plastic, vinyl and whatever else is attached ?My guess is they have folks working in the yard that strip those parts off and separate anything of value.
