I'm always worried about a "Philly Abandonment." That's where something is "temporarily" suspended and never comes back, like the ex-PRR Line to West Chester, or the 23, 47 and 50 streetcars. |

The problem with not restoring service in that area is that the rest of the CTA would be cut off from the Skokie shop which is the main shop for the CTA and CTA’s equivalent of NYCT’s CIYd. |

I know what you mean. Some commentators in the media proposed permanently truncating the #1 at Rector Street after Hurricane Sandy. And don't forget Boston's "A-Watertown Line". That was also supposed to be a temporary suspension... |

I often wondered when the T assigned letters to the Green Line streetcar system. It didn’t really make much sense to assign a letter “A” to a line that was planned to be shut down anyhow. It would have mede more sense to assign the letters in reverse order so that the highest letter would have been eliminated although Arborway was also slated to be at least partially shut down too. |

I remember the first time I was ever in Boston- 1991, in the pre-internet days. I saw that the letters started with "B", and that seemed to make no sense.I was also there in 1993, and I saw the abandoned, but still intact tracks and wires along Brighton Avenue. While I didn't know there was an abandoned line, I quickly noticed that no trains/trolleys were running there, and I wondered what the deal was. I asked an operator of the B, and she told me that it was recently shut down for repair. I believed her, LOL!! Judging by her mannerisms, I don't think she was deliberately BS-ing me- she just didn't know. |

FCC wouldn't care, they'd just move them. The real issue was interference with the 46MHz police band which was where channel 1 was. Prior to moving up there, police radio was on lower frequencies which carried a lot farther and caused interference there. So they moved them up to where channel 1 was."Public safety" always takes precedence with the FCC. |
