Um, where do you come up with this stuff?Very few people take off more than a day and a half for Yom Kippur, and people who observe Yom Kippur rarely travel for the holiday (why travel somewhere for a holiday that involves no food and little else other than praying?). Not to mention the Pope won't even be in Philadelphia for Yom Kippur, he'll be in DC, and plenty of people are attending his events in Washington. In many parts of North America (and the rest of the world) without significant Jewish populations, Yom Kippur is just like any other regular workday (assuming it doesn't fall on Shabbat, which it doesn't this year). The organizers of the World Meeting of Families (in other words, the Roman Curia) probably don't look at the Jewish or Islamic calendars when planning because why would they? Since when has the Curia been concerned with religious calendars other than its own? |

True, but my point is, others who likely schedule vacation time around such holidays might very well have already put in requests for such (especially those who work through the summer and hold off taking vacation time until the fall because they are often needed to fill in for people during the summer) before it was known for sure the Pope was coming. In some cases, some companies may have had no choice but to deny those wanting to see the Pope time off for that due to others having already put in for time off around the other religious holidays that happen to fall that week (and/or those who simply take their vacation time at this point of the year due to their being needed during the summer).I've known people who've had their work schedules altered when others have to take off like that, and I've had mine altered at times to fill in for others on vacation. They likely overestimated not realizing some people can't come to Philly because of having to work and not being able to get time off. |

Hey, this is the guy who said they deliberately opened Hudson Yards, a station that isn't going to have congestion problems for many years even with one or two broken escalators, just before a Jewish holiday to keep the traffic down. |

I didn't exactly say that. The timing there was a coincidence. It just happened to work out that they opened the new station (34th-Hudson Yards on the 7) with two extra days before it would get its first real test (this morning) simply because it opened on the Sunday directly in front of Rosh Hashanah. |

Let's say it was 50% higher, to take an extreme possible difference. 1.5 x 50 people per train is 75 people per train. Still negligible. |

I agree. Like you said, I think ridership was higher today, maybe significantly so, relative to the past two days. But since you're starting from such a small base number...I used the station today in the AM and PM rush. It was pretty light. |

Maybe so, but the point was, they had a couple of extra days before the real test of what would be (for now) normal weekday passenger load to test what is going on that they got purely by chance because of the calendar. |

No, the real test was 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. Far higher hourly usage than it will see for the time being, barring special events. |
