Absolute disgrace on R train past 2 nights: 45 min wait last night, 35 min wait tonight

Last night (Saturday night), the Bay Ridge R didn't show up at 36th St Brooklyn until 11:20pm, after a 45 minute (or longer) wait. Tonight (Sunday night), it didn't show up until 11:13pm, after a 35 minute (or longer) wait. Those waits are the times I actually waited - the wait could have been even longer. Understandably, the crowd was 6 or 7 deep on the platform at 36th St.

The problem lies in that the MTA only schedules Bay Ridge R trains every 20 minutes in Brooklyn after 10pm, as they drop out trains coming from Queens at Whitehall St. With delays caused by track work and/or crew members not showing up, a 20 minute wait can easily become a 40 minute wait. Time and time again. Somehow the N and D are regularly arriving every 10 to 12 minutes each, while the crowd grows and grows and grows.

This has happened practically EVERY weekend since the MTA opened up the Montague St tunnel. (When the Montague St tunnel was shut down, they couldn't cut the R service to Brooklyn, and everything ran quite well.)

I encourage everyone reading this to contact their elected officials (city council in Bay Ridge/Sunset Park/downtown Brooklyn), all the local newspapers, etc. I will be contacting all of these politicians this week, as well as the local newspapers of these neighborhoods, and the Daily News, NY Post, and other publications.

Just as the G train started working well after neighborhood complaints, we must do the same with the R train. They can start by extending all trains that end at Whitehall, to 95th, on the weekends between 10pm and 12midnight. Also, run supplementary shuttles between 36th and 95th between 10pm and midnight. (It's very sad that the R train runs more frequently after midnight since it's on a 20 minute shuttle schedule, and that runs like clockwork.)

In addition to the above places that you've noted to make a compliant, I'd also make a compliant to the MTA's complaint division! It may be pro-forma to do so - but it is a record of a complaint.

That sucks. Another good option is to only live in a part of the city that has good subway service (I.e. not Bay Ridge or along the G).
