Posted by Larry,RedbirdR33 on Mon Aug 31 07:21:34 2015 Tuscarora Almanac for August 311 - August 31, 1958 - The Book of Last Runs Service is discontinued on the remaining section of the 9th Avenue El between 167th Street and 155th Street. The stations at Jerome-Anderson Avenues, Sedgwick Avenue and 155th Street are closed. Also closed is the steam operated Putnam Bridge across the Harlem River. 2 – August 31, 1971 – The Book of First Runs A new free transfer passageway is placed in service between the 5th Avenue Station on the IRT Flushing Line and the 42nd Street Station on the IND 6th Avenue Line. This replaces a paper transfer that had been in effect since 1967. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Posted by gbs on Mon Aug 31 22:03:19 2015, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for August 31, posted by Larry,RedbirdR33 on Mon Aug 31 07:21:34 2015. 2) The walls of that transfer passageway were covered with large, beautiful coffee-brown tiles, which remained in wonderful condition even until they were covered over with an "art" installation a couple of years ago.With so many stations in desperate need of renovating, the TA decided instead to re-do one of the areas that was not in need of fixing. I can't find a photo of the original walls. For those who never saw them, perhaps someone else can post a picture. |
