Tuscarora Almanac - May 22, 1991 - The Book of Last Runs

The New York City Transit Authority discontinues the use of marker lights today. All cars which still have marker lights will now display Red-Red aspects on the front and rear of the train.

Though toward the end of the redbird era, there were one or two guys which didn't do that. :-)

don’t recall that but there was a brief period when the IRT mainline returned to the use of marker lights. When work was being done on the Lenox Line, S/B AM 2 trains operated via Lenox and 7 Av and N/B 2 trains operated via Lex. After noon time and continuing into and past the PM rush, N/B 2 trains operated vis 7 and Lenox Av and S/B 2 trains operated via Lex. During that time, T/Os on the 2 trains operating via Lex were instructed to set the marker lights to Green/Green and those operating via 7 Av the “normal” Red/Red as those were the colors of the respective lines as displayed on maps and route signs of trains so equipped.
