Looks like the number is 813 to my eyes. From the M. White collection.

Passed along to me by a friend. Had to share that one. No tracks through that station now, and the former ROW north of there is now called American Parkway. There's a single track through the former LVRR station area, which is not too far away; IINM that was used briefly by SEPTA's RDC service to Reading Terminal.

Too bad, that so little is left. Not even SEPTA goes there any more.

The Reading/SEPTA service most of us remember called at Bethlehem, not Allentown. The train pictured is actually on Allentown Terminal tracks, used by RDG & CNJ to access the station. RDG left Allentown in '63 (IIRC) when the Jersey City/Harrisburg service was discontinued. The LV station was on the other side of the Hamilton St. bridge over the Lehigh River, torn down around the same time.

Nice view BTW...

It was extended to Allentown for a couple of years (1978/79), but just one train per day; service to Bethlehem ended in 1981.

The railroad has been "greenwayed" north of Quakertown; the entire ROW is still there of course, but it really is a travesty that not even a freight train ca get from Philly to the ABE area anymore.

What with NJT having proven the ALP-45DPs in regular service, a frequent passenger service with them pulling the BBD push-pull cars would work, but the way SEPTA has the funding structured, they will only serve the counties that pay into it—albeit not too well.
