Posted by Larry,RedbirdR33 on Sun Mar 29 07:36:45 2015 Tuscarora Almanac - March 29-30, 1939 - The Book of First RunsMarch 29-30, 1939 - The first Bluebird, 8000 ABC made a special run today on the BMT Fulton Street El for invited guests. It entered regular revenue service on March 30. A total of six "Bluebirds" were built. The prototype , No. 8000 in 1938 and the five production units, 8001-8005 in 1940. No. 8000 has the distinction of being the last car built for the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Company while 8001-8005 were the first cars purchased by the New York City Board of Transportation. Posted by randyo on Sun Mar 29 13:43:59 2015, in response to Tuscarora Almanac - March 29-30, 1939 - The Book of First Runs, posted by Larry,RedbirdR33 on Sun Mar 29 07:36:45 2015. although officially, 8000 even is reported to have no had any regular couplers, Jim Greller’s book has a photo of 8000 in CIY if I recall and it clearly has an H 2 style drawhead on the head end, and I don’t think its merely for towing purposes as it appears to have a full electric portion. |
