Fillmore East was at 105 2nd ave. This building is at 121 (same side of the street). The link given in OT, shows an aerial shot - a little to the lower left of the smoking site, you can see the original "smallish" white building that was the theater's entrance building (now hosting an Emigrant bank), and behind it, the apartment building that replaced the theater space itself. ------------------------------------------------- that said, looking at the aerial shot of the smoking building, or any aerial shot like this in Manhattah, you can't help but be sadly remineded of 9/11. Gas explosion - 12 people injured, critically- extremely sad. I hope they all can survive. |

You mention places I don't know. When I lived/worked in that area B&H Dairy, Ratner's, the Paradox, were my food haunts as well as Koh-I-Noor the first place I ate Indian food. |

Virage at the NE corner of 7th and 2nd is maybe 10 years old; San Marzano at the SW corner is where Kiev used to be and is only 1-2 years old. |

And there are people I know who think this might wind up derailing the SAS entirely because now they will have to look at ALL of the gas lines in NYC as a result of this and find a way to make the aftereffects of that explosion preventing the SAS from ever running. |

Not if it turns out that it was due to people monkeying with the gas inside the building. Besides, subway construction is an opportunity to renew the underground infrastructure. |
