Electric Side Signs on R68A Cars |
|
Posted by R2ChinaTown on Sun Mar 1 22:11:17 2015 I saw one car in Coney Island shop with that type of sign. Could they all be done? |

I haven’t seen any yet but hopefully they will all be done as well as the IRT’s R62s and 62As even if they only have the simpler R-46 version and not FIND. |

From what I was told just 45 minutes ago it almost didn't happen. It likely won't be done because there are not enough trainline spare wires to do it. It was done to show that it "could be done" and then undone. So since there are no public pictures of it yet, it never happened.Of course, in the same phone call, I was told about another train that is in service today with new electronic equipment on board. Since I do not have pictures yet, we'll save that for another day. |

The Identra system on the original R-46 trains worked intermittently and was ignored to death and ultimately replaced by the Luminator system, which did work very well. |

So- silly question- maybe I should know this...but how were the R44s disposed of? Were they reefed,, like the Redbirds, R32s, $0s, etc...,, or shipped someplace like the M1s...And if they were towed out of town, where did they go, what was done to them when they got there, and how did they go- towed by locomotives, loaded onto flatbed railcars, or on trucks? Any info would be appreciated... |

I’m sure that there were certain parts salvaged from the reefed redbirds that can be used on remaining in service equipment. I would suspect that the same would be true of the R-44s since there are certain parts like window frames, trucks, drawheads etc that can be used on existing in service equipment. |
