From the article, LOL!Propulsion systems vary by type of transportation and how they're powered, but in general they work by creating thrust to propel a vehicle forward. As NASA describes it, "a gas, or working fluid, is accelerated by the engine, and the reaction to this acceleration produces a force on the engine." In the case of the Red Line, which uses standard gauge heavy rail cars, electricity can also expel propellant to create thrust. Ummmm. No. But DO check the oil, please. :) |

Already have too many times. I try to keep things different wherever possible. But ya gotta love it, subways always need a full tank of gas. Heh. |

MBTA cars don’t have brake valves. The older cars have WABCO Cineston controllers and the newest cars have a joystick that controls the brakes electronically like the NYCTA’s NTTs. |

More details on the red line smoke condition. The train overshot the station by 35 feet and was instructed by command center to back up. The wheels on two axles of new car continued spinning, causing smoke.Governor Slams T Officials |

I remember being on a Red Line train a few years ago that overshot a station. The M/M merely sounded 3 blasts of the horn and backed up into the station, something that is definitely a no no on NYCTA! |
