"... but huge media story,"Metro North will be in the media cross hairs for quite some time. Sometimes justified, most times not. The least infraction will be magnified into much more than it really is. Thats just the way it goes. In the mean time, To me a better media story is that for the first time, I might be able to enjoy a Cuban Cigar!! |

There's a nice duty free right across the border in Champlain/Mooers. Cohibas by the handful as long as you don't try to bring TOO many back home. :) |

It's on the southbound side just north of the border, conveniently located to the right of the traffic jam waiting to get through the US checkpoint. Given the backups there, it's also a handy pit stop and Tim Hortons. :) |

It was the deciding point in whether the next 6 or so hours were going to be easy or an absolute life or death struggle. |

It's Douanes heading north that's turned into an interesting adventure. Southbound, free government sniff, doggies, and "oh, it's you again." :) |

What Selkirk said. Also, when the Canadian dollar is strong prices for lots of goods are cheaper in the US, so Canadians go shopping. Canadians also visit friends and relatives in the US. And sometimes Canadians want to go somewhere warmer. |

About this time of the year you gather supplies and begin hunkering down for a long winter's nap. If I don't hear from you until spring let me wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Heh, except the only guy getting the "oh it's you again" is me, the bus driver. Everyone else is a newbie and lots of them barely speak English. Ever drive 56 West Africans into the USA? It can take anywhere from 30 mins to 3 hours to get across that damn border. Then you gotta drive through the night (because I always got the night runs) down that dark, desolate highway. Most nights I was fine, quick stretch at High Peaks, and keep it moving, but some nights were a real struggle. Cranky bus drivers during the morning rush hour on Rt 17 is not a good thing. Northbound we had our issues here and there, but at least then you're night is pretty much over. Suns up by then, and you've only got 45 mins-1hr to Montreal. |

Know the trip well, and we always manage to get to the border northbound right after midnight, noon for the southbound whenever we go to Rue St Catherine. My sympathies on the ride south of here, 17 is a 24 hour nightmare. And gotta love that cell coverage north of Plattsburg. Bad place to blow a tire. |
