October 30, 1954 (60 years ago): The first day for IND D train service to operate between 205th Street (Bronx-Concourse line) and Coney Island. The previous south terminal had been Church Avenue. After this date, D trains traversed the new ramp from Church to Ditmas Avenue and took over service on the former BMT Division Culver Line between Ditmas and Coney Island. At the time it was most likely the longest single-seat ride on the NYCTA - 28 miles between 205th and CI - since eclipsed by the A between 207th and Far Rockaway.

Actually, prior to the extension to CI, the south terminal for the D was Chambers St/Hudson Terminal and the F went to Church Ave.
