A Heartfelt Thank You & Farewell — Posman Books at Grand Central will close December 31st Tuesday, October 28th, 2014Category: News To all our wonderful customers, As some of you may know there are a number of significant projects underway in Grand Central Terminal. Much of the work is behind the scenes but will eventually lead to improved access to the transportation network. Unfortunately, Grand Central has determined that they will need our space/location for plans to upgrade and improve pedestrian circulation in and around Grand Central. So, dear readers, our last day of business will be December 31st. Needless to say we are terribly sad to be leaving you and we are actively working with Grand Central to find a new location. We have loved being here and serving you for these last 15 years. We can’t quite believe it ourselves, but this is happening and we will close at the end of this year. Of course it’s not the end of Posman Books! We still have thriving stores in Chelsea Market and Rockefeller Center and we are excited to be opening a new store in the remodeled World Financial Center in March 2015. But we realize that isn’t much consolation to our regular customers here in Grand Central Terminal. We have one gentle reminder to all our regulars; we won’t be here in January when you need a calendar, so we will be discounting them earlier than usual. Dear Mr. Moss,Starving the city of it's transportation needs is a far greater crime that worrying about it's cultural needs. You can get books on Amazon, but try buying Tylenol the same way. You can download nearly anything you could want to read or watch. By I don't know of any way a tablet of silicon can fix a problem only a tablet of Ibprophane can. Our advancement as a digital society has made acquiring books easier. But it has not affected our need for certain convinces. Convinces a drug store provides, but a book store does not. One day I was passing through Grand Central, I was going to buy a birthday present for my grandfather at the Transit Museum store. My allergies were bothering me badly, so I went into CVS and bought some allergy meds and a bottle of water to take them with. book store wouldn't help me there. On another day at Grand Central, a very hot day, I was struck with a panic attack, one of the worst I've ever had. I admit help was more in the form of bottles of water from the Hudson News and a relative driving in to pick me up, but a book store would not have done me any good. |

The company approached me to work for them and I was not interested because there was no way in hell I was going to move to either of those locations despite an extremely attractive salary offer. The company said, "that's OK with us, would you like to just stay were you are and telecommute 100% of the time? We really want you to come work with us." And so, my commute is a distance of ten feet from my bed. These are modern times. Buses, subways, who the hell needs them when you never need to leave the house? A digital society has eliminated the need to travel entirely. Fire up the webcam, and it's face to face as needed. If I need drugs, they can be delivered. Be careful what you wish for ... |

And if I can walk to another drug store, what about all the other book stores nearby? There are at lest four within a few blocks of the terminal. If you expand your radius to "a few blocks," there are way more than four drugstores. And independent book stores tend to have a variety of stock from one to another; national chain drugstores are all pretty much the same. Personally, I'd rather shop at the Barnes & Nobles on the north side of Union Square park. Now that has got some awesome stuff in it. And it's nowhere near Grand Central. Posner also has awesome stuff in it. Rite Aid has no awesome stuff in it. |
