an Rp-12 mockup would have been better - they had cushioned seats.

cool Of course the J. P. Morgan quote applies.

Probably built for a show, something that sits in the prop department costs space and nothing like paying off that original expense over and over and over again. CBS used to have an incredibly large prop department over on 59th and 10th.,

It's in California. 818 area code. No bargain to rent and transport I'd bet. An East coast production would probably stick with the real thing, unless they use Toronto to save a few bucks if they are doing other stuff there.

Other than Letterman and the news, CBS wouldn't have a reason to drag it out east either. When they want something subway-like, they often hit up a museum or pay the MTA the price.

Or get all the location shots done by the second unit...
There is a mainstream spy movie with a chase scene where the bad guy runs down a starirwell to take the DC Metro but then they use a shot from below of him coming down the stairs into a subway station in Baltimore--back when this was filmed I think balto had no Sunday service at all so easy to film there.

The mock up allow filming in a more central location for cast and crew in a controlled environment. Something that may be tough even in NYTM. Many filming production crew's rates are as high as or higher than MTA. As railfans, we should hope that more filming takes place in the system than outside..so take that SelkirkTMO!

Person of Interest on CBS which is filmed in NYC is currently using a mockup which looks like a CTA 2200 on the outside minus the blinker doors and R32 on the inside. The car is used as a sort of base for the characters that's suppose to be an abandoned subway car in an abandoned station. The mock up station has an old City Hall look to it.

I just saw that car on a rerun of Law and Order:SVU a few days ago. The side panel above the doors when shot from the outside of the car was a give away. The production company also used the station platform mentioned in the ad. The give away on that shot was that the entire length of the platform was only long for a couple of cars. In the episode I saw it was labeled as an A train.
