R Train Riders Denounce Old, Late Trains & Demand MTA Close Montague Tunnel Permanently |
|
Posted by heypaul on Wed Oct 22 21:07:29 2014 Whoards of R train riders are furious with the return of the old junky and late subway trains to their line. They are demanding that the MTA close the recently reopened Montague Street tunnel and return the modern R 160 cars to the line. One regular rider, Sandy Strang, says she misses the video display that shows the current location of the train. Herman Hasberger misses the male and female voices that announce each station. He credits those soothing voices for helping silence the voices telling him to kill, that he normally hears in his head.CLOSE THE MONTAGUE & CAPULET TUNNELS |

Close the Montague and Capulet tunnels?Wouldn't it be easier to just trick one into thinking the other was already closed, thus setting off a series of misunderstandings that ultimately lead to them both closing themselves? |

Good thing the T train from the SAS isn't supposed to go through there . . . it'd be embarrassing to call it the "Tybalt". |

Years ago, there was a bar on Montague St called "Capulet's" which despite its deliberate Shakespearian reference specialized in Bluegrass music. |

Sounds good to me. I think they should revert to some version of the old "Triborough Plan", which would have (please correct me, as applicable) routed the BRT 4th Avenue line over the Brooklyn Bridge via a connection at Flatbush Ave., no?Well, even f I've got these details wrong, I agree. Close and dynamite the Montague tunnel, and run the R via an El to the Brooklyn Bridge (don't strengthen it) and use R68As (definitely NOT R68s!!) for the service. |

The "R" did run better when the tunnel was closed, on both ends. I think that the R-46's are just to tired and weary to climb out out of the Montague Street Tunnel.Larry, RedbirdR33 |

You could say that.:)To me, it's the Ricky in Queens because it runs on the I Love Lucy Line (Ethel, Fred and Lucy (McGillicuddy). Then once it enters Manhattan, it becomes the Ralph because it shares trackage with the Norton for most part, and in Brooklyn along the Honeymooners Line (Trixie joins in, but not Alice). |
