Did you read the article?1. she's a native of Park Slope. Don't assume just cause someone is white and living in Brooklyn they're from Podunk. The video interviews her mother. Podunks usually don't have thier parents nearby... 2. She didn't "start" anything. Technically the students started it, and if you want to go at it from your angle, the father of the two little children "started it" because his kids were napping quietly in his lap and the students woke them up. She only spoke up after he said something. 3. Her statement was they should not be cursing infront of little children. That is not acceptable behavior 4. I don't care what she said, that gave them no right to get physical with her. They were in the wrong the moment they paid hands on her. If everything was reversed, if 3 or 4 white kids ganged up on black person, everyone would be crying "hate crime" fat ass Shapton would be on the scene in a heartbeat, no one would be blaming the victim. Double standards need to stop. |

And spare me on the "double standard" stuff if there was a white on black crime we'd be having a debate about how there shouldn't be a 'hate crime' statute.If there is no apparent racial motivation there shouldn't be a hate crime added to the prosecution, period. Perhaps every time there's a white incident I should bring up Rush Limbaugh or some other obnoxious character since we seem to live in some strange paradigm where we can predict the thoughts of an ethnic group based on one loud member of that group. On a sidenote, I've been beaten worse for less and didn't have any bystanders come to my aid or police make an effort to apprehend the suspects or get any press sympathy. Might the world be more willing to help an 'innocent looking' white girl than a minority, what do you think of that double standard? |

The race of the girls were never mentioned. Not agreeing or disagreeing maybe they were black maybe not maybe there was a mix. Can't even base it on the neighborhoods. The areas the F goes through it's toss up. As someone who works for the MTA mostly during after school hours I can tell you the VAST majority of school kids after school are rowdy, loud and curse a lot black, white, latino, jewish, asian and all combinations in between. I've seen it all. And based on their actions i'm sure if they were the same race ascthe lady the result would have been the same. Glad they were caught. |

If you need it in plain language, no one would be blaming the victim like they are in this thread is she was something other than white. Someone saw her and automaticly assumed she was not a native New Yorker because she was white and lived in Park Slope.I brought up what I brought up because everyone would respond to if differently if the circumstances were different. If she was anything but white "she should have kept here mouth shut" would not be the first words out of anyone's mouths and no one would be defending her attackers. To deny that is naïve. |
