Many schedules show trains operating 6-8 minutes, 2-3 minutes etc, how do you get a .5 train does that represent a half of trip due to a layup?

What's the issue? If it says 6-8 minutes, it means sometimes in the relevant time period they comes 6 minutes apart, sometimes 8, or sometimes 7.

If it says 2-3 minutes it means 2, 3 or 2.5 minutes apart, most likely 2.5 as the official schedules do have intervals spaced in half-minutes at times.

Exactly, therefore an odd number of trains.

??? Please explain.

If a train comes every 2.5 minutes, that's 24 trains per hour. What's odd about it?

There can be an odd number of trains on a given route if it's length and traffic needs require it, they don't run in pairs.

I understand so schedules are either .5 or the full minute? Look at the 7 minute interval.

I think you are thinking about this too hard again.

If the schedule says every 6-8 minutes, then that is simply how often the trains come. they are not bound to a public schedule.

The Brooklyn R train shuttle (95th-Court) had 7.5 minute rush-hour headways for the past year. For example, it left 95th at 8:03:00am, 8:10:30am, 8:18:00am, etc. That is how the schedule was written.

I think he averaged the number of potential trains during that time span and misinterpreted the results.
