Weather looks good so come on out! Here is a LINK to more information. Don't 'cha think NJT should run at least one round trip to Boonton for this event?

I agree and mentioned that on fb today.

Even though I won't be able to attend this year I wanted to attend in the past. But I really don't want to drive due to traffic, gas & tolls.

So much less hassle to get there by NJT.

According to the Lakeland website service from the PABT to Boonton on weekends is hourly departing at :30 and arriving at Boonton Town Hall at :25 the next hour. That translates to a 55 minute bus ride.

Anyone know the distance between the Town Hall and the UHRS site?

I can't answer my own question, because the maps on the internet are not that clear to these old eyes. But with a stated population of 8,500 the town can't be that big not to walk it or take a 5-10 minute cab ride.

My name is Mike O'Toole and I am the URHS of NJ webmaster, an ajunct position to the URHS of NJ executive board.

The 2014 details http://urhs.org/blog/transportation-heritage-festival-2014/

The yard will open to the public at 10 am and close at 4 pm. Photographers are recommended to come right at start time for photos before crowds grow.

West Boonton Yard is located at 104 Morris Ave, Boonton, NJ, which is easily accessible from Routes 46, 80, and 287. Visitors can have the option of taking the 0.3 mile walk from the NJ Transit station at 100 Frontage Road, or riding the shuttle bus from the Boonton public parking lot at 1 Plane Street, just off Main Street.

To recap and answer previous questions:

"NJT should run at least one round trip to Boonton"

There is no NJ Transit rail service on weekends on the Boonton line. But there is service on the Morris-Essex line to Denville a short cab ride away.

"Anyone know the distance between the Town Hall and the UHRS site?"

Google Maps correctly lists Town Hall to the festival site as 0.3 miles.

"How far from the museum?" aka 'The Boonton Historical Society' at 591 Powerville Road, Boonton Township, New Jersey?

Yahoo! Maps shows 4.82 miles between the two.

Too bad the first posting of this event was earlier this week. Not enough lead time for some of us to change weekend plans for various reasons.

If this happening is to be an annual event, will it be held in the fall? I'd love to attend.

As to the comment on insufficient notice the 2014 festival date was posted on the URHS website and facebook page in mid October 2013 as soon as I got home from the board meeting. Press releases were sent out to all media on August 25 at 8pm. What are we missing?

Mike

I think the issue is the preservation oriented person doing the advertising doesn't have this railfan site on his list.

Convincing him to add this site might be challenging.
