The reopening of Montague is most on their minds.

They can't handle more than one celebration at a time.

The transit museum should be celebrating this with at the very least in 2 weeks an R32 pair on hand......at the very least 3370/71, part of the first train in service, which are still active.

Imagine showing off a new R188 or R179 in this era like that. FRA would go nuts.

From the TA's standpoint, they do not want much publicity on this 50 year anniversary because it shows they fucked up over the years:

1) They bought and scrapped 1,300 cars built subsequently because they opted for cheaper St Louis junk rather than more R32's clones from Budd,
2) They are around as opposed to the R44 due to the failure of congestion pricing, shortage of 480' long trains, and lack of flexibility of draw-barred sets that they have become addicted to.

1312709 is the post you want to check.

While 3370/71 was not part of the train into GCT, they were part of the first R32 in service on the old Q Brighton Exp. operating between Brighton Beach and 57/7.

The TA probably did not "opt" for cheaper St Louis cars. By law all car contracts have to go out for competitive bidding and St Louis had the lowest bid. In some cases, a car manufacturer may not want to submit any bids for a contract leaving the bids open for other contractors.

Bill from Maspeth said "The transit museum should be celebrating this with at the very least in 2 weeks an R32 pair on hand......at the very least 3370/71, part of the first train in service, which are still active.

Why go thru the trouble and expense of moving cars in and out of the museum? The R32s are still in service and anyone can catch them. I rather see the museum devote space to cars no longer in service. If I were a one time museum visitor, I would be disappointed to see in service series of cars rather than out of service cars.

They have or had a 44 on display recently, I doubt the general public can tell the difference between a 44 and a 46.
