Posted by Bill D on Mon Sep 1 08:03:31 2014 IRT Lo-V #5466 at the Shore Line Trolley Museum (Branford) has had a sprucing up done recently, and looks quite nice! Here are some pictures taken on Sunday 8/31 at the museum. For those of you interested, the final rapid transit weekend of this season will be coming up on September 20 and 21. That weekend will also feature "Working on The Railroad", where seldom seen work equipment from several trolley systems will be on display.Bill |

There was a banner made that said "Goodbye! Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow". My friend from high school & I held that banner from the side windows as tv news Anchorman Gabe Pressman did his report on the platform. |

Posted by Nilet on Tue Sep 2 00:19:44 2014, in response to Re: PHOTOS: Lo-V 5466, posted by Bill D on Mon Sep 1 21:22:30 2014. It states in the notice "this TRIP CAN NEVER BE REPEATED!" :(Yeah, but it's referring only to those specific cars. I'll settle for the museum's current Lo-Vs. I'd pay $6, inflated to today's cost, for the "speed run" alone! Same here. According to this inflation calculator, $6 in 1964 was worth $46.11 in today's money, making it technically cheaper than today's nostalgia trips, which I believe are $50. Oh, speaking of 1964— Lo-Vs ran on the 3rd Avenue El (or at least the Bronx remnant thereof) which was still in service at the time. Any idea whether the Myrtle el could have tolerated a single solitary run (maybe after its official closing in 1969)? |

I'll let somebody familiar with the Myrtle Avenue el answer your question, but the Lo-V trip will be repeated (to some extent) on October 25th.From the transit museum web page: "Nostalgia Rides GHOULS, GOBLINS AND GHOST TRAINS: A RIDE TO WOODLAWN CEMETERY Sat, Oct 25, 4:00 p.m. - Tickets $50/$25 Adult/Child $35/$20 Adult /Child Museum Members Venture uptown on our WWI-era IRT subway cars to explore the (very) old haunts of Woodlawn Cemetery." |

Subway Al and Victor "The Flash" have been trying to undo PATH's butchering of the car for a long time. 503 came to Branford as a work car. It's up to these gentlemen to restore this gem to all of her glory. Projects like this are sometimes lengthy. One day at a time.... It must be done right.Regards, Stef |
